Hello again and welcome back to another installment of the Hobbit Hollow Construction Blog!
Thanks again for stopping by.
So this is just gonna be a quick update….and apologies to Zach because I spelled his name wrong in the blog last week. Sorry about that buddy. I was going to throw the Editor under the bus on that one but I just can’t do it. I love her way too much.
Jude and his friend Zach have been working away this past week on a variety of things. The skylights being one of them. They pretty much finished up the framing of the skylights which was great. They also installed the Mira drain over the top of the Hobbit House. The skylight framing is pretty intense. I went back over to the house this weekend and made a few minor adjustments.
The key for the skylights is to make sure everything is in the same plane as the skylight box. This isn’t as simple as it sounds. In order to check it I set up a straight edge on top to make sure the alignment was okay. Here is a picture of one that isn’t totally flat.
If you look at the near side you will see the gap between the straight edge and the form. Gotta fix that.
To fix it you just have to wedge up the legs where it’s needed as shown. Check it out.
So Jude and Zach have been having lunch over at my Mother in Laws every day. I mean it’s unbelievable. They go over there and she makes them a five course Italian food fest. I go over there to use the bathroom and she wants to know how much paper I used. Geez! Give me a break already. (I’ll probably get the food bill as well. Stay tuned.) And having bloated boys working on a hot August afternoon doesn’t sound too productive if you ask me. Hmmm. Maybe I can bill her for production losses!!!!! I think I may have hit upon an interesting idea!
There are certain things that always remind me of the end of the summer. Here’s one of them.
One last shot before I go this week.
We need one more roll of mira drain to finish up. Hoping to pour the tops of the skylights next weekend. Once that’s done we are almost ready for backfilling! I took all the covers off the skylights to see how it looks. The light it lets into the house is awesome. Just the extra touch needed.
Have a great week!
